Capcom Classics Break Free from PS Plus: Dino Crisis and Resident Evil Now Standalone

Capcom‘s iconic PS1 classics, Dino Crisis and Resident Evil: Director’s Cut, are now available for individual purchase on the PlayStation Store, marking a significant shift from their previous exclusivity to the PlayStation Plus Premium subscription service. As of November 26, 2024, players can buy each game for $9.99/£7.99/€9.99, making them accessible to a broader audience without requiring an active subscription.

Previously, these games were locked behind the PS Plus Premium tier, which costs $119.99 annually, leading to frustration among fans who wanted to own the titles outright rather than relying on a subscription model. The move to make them standalone purchases addresses these complaints and follows a growing trend of classic titles being released outside of PS Plus exclusivity.

For those who had previously purchased either game on older PlayStation platforms like the PS3, PSP, or PS Vita, there’s even better news: both titles can now be downloaded for free on PS4 and PS5 via the PlayStation Store. This is part of Sony’s cross-buy policy for retro games, allowing players to reclaim their past purchases on modern hardware.

The availability of Dino Crisis and Resident Evil: Director’s Cut as standalone purchases has been warmly received by fans, especially given the enduring popularity of these survival horror classics. While Capcom has not announced plans for additional retro releases in this format, this development raises hopes that more beloved titles from the PS1 era could follow suit.
