Earthion, is, as regular readers of Retro News will know, the new Genesis shoot ‘em up from Yuzo Koshiro‘, on which we’ve previously reported. And now, an enterprising ROM hacker has decided to mash up Earthion with a previous Genesis game on which Yuzo Koshiro‘ worked, namely Streets of Rage 2, for which he composed the classic soundtrack.
The Streets of Rage 2 ROM hack was brought to our attention by a post on X by the Japanese gaming site Renpou.com, and in the hack, the Streets of Rage 2 fighter Axel has been replaced by the Earthion spaceship YK-IIA.
The Earthion/Streets of Rage 2 ROM hack is available to download now from this link.
Despite not yet even receiving a full release, other than on Steam, Earthion certainly seems to be very popular within the homebrew community, as not only has it been mashed up with Streets of Rage 2 in this hack, but Game Boy Color developer extraordinaire Shane McCafferty has also created a Game Boy Color demo of the game, on which we have previously reported.
Meanwhile, Earthion is available to purchase now on Steam, with the delayed console versions due to follow later this year, and the delayed physical Genesis/Mega Drive release set to be released in 2026.
