We’ve been following the development of Echoes of the Unread, a new NES adventure from Clever Cat Games, and we’re currently preparing our review of the finished game that has smashed its Kickstarter goal as we type this. While eager NES fans wait to get their hands on the game, publisher Mega Cat Studios has begun to release developer vlogs from Clever Cat Games founder Matt Tuttle. In the first of a series, Matt looks back at Echoes of the Unread’s origins from a simple Mario ROM hack to a fully fledged title.
The insights in the first vlog are wonderful, as we find out that Matt started out making a present for his sister before finally deciding to start from scratch and make his own game based on the ideas he’d already developed. Echoes of the Unread is getting ready to launch, although the vlog release was also a chance for the publisher to let us know they hope to ship in February 2026. So, while we wait for the game’s full release, check out the developer vlog and get your pre-order in on the Kickstarter page.
On the Echoes of the Unread crowdfunding page, a new update released today confirmed that the next dev vlog, which looks at the art and sound in the game, will release on the 30th of May 2025. There was also news about the track listing for the vinyl and CD soundtracks that are part of the crowdfunding campaign for those looking for a complete experience.
