Of all the retro news to come out of this week’s State of Play, Final Fantasy Tactics getting a remaster was probably the biggest. Square’s beloved tactical RPG is a firm fan favourite, and now it will get the treatment it deserves with enhancements including fully voiced dialogue, optimised and updated user interface, improved graphics, alongside the usual remaster quality of life features. For those new to the game, a new easy mode is available to help you get used to the gameplay.
Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles will release on PlayStation 4/5 on the 30th of September 2025 and will include both the remaster and the original title released on the original PlayStation in 1997. Although the original port remains largely untouched, Square has confirmed that the renowned War of the Lions translation has been used and an auto-save feature has been included.
In a blog about the release on PlayStation’s website, Square Marketing Director Francis Santos said. “I think that these two versions will provide the best experience for both veteran players and those who have not had the chance to give Final Fantasy Tactics a try, and both are included with The Ivalice Chronicles!”
