Final Zone is an isometric shooter released for the Mega Drive and Sharp X68000 in 1990. It has now been re-released on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 by Ratalaika Games, priced at $5.99. The original game was developed by Wolf Team, known for its Tales series, before disbanding in 2013.

The new release of the game includes several quality-of-life features, including a rewind function and save states. It also introduces a gallery that highlights original posters and box designs, amongst other things. There are also screen filters to help recreate that CRT feel and a jukebox to listen to the game’s chiptune soundtrack. Finally, anyone struggling to get passed a level can use a cheat menu built into the emulator.

The story in Final Zone couldn’t be more ’90s. In the future of the 2000s, war is no longer fought with missile weapons or nuclear bombs. With the high technology of military satellites, they can monitor large-scale forces. It was the beginning of a new era of small-scale land warfare weapons. At that time, a new weapon called NAP (New Age Powered Suits) was unveiled. Howard Bowie, the soldier of the El Sharia Military Nation’s foreign legion, has received an order to go into the battlefield to fulfil the mission, even though it would be like a death sentence.
