Freeze ZX is a new fanzine dedicated to the 8-bit ZX Spectrum home computer, being produced by the makers of the popular Commodore 64 fanzine, Freeze 64.
Issue one of Freeze ZX is set to be released in August 2025, but you can pre-order your copy now.
Freeze ZX will be a 36-page, A5 fanzine dedicated to all things ZX Spectrum. The first issue will feature the acclaimed homebrew game Jet Set Steamboat Willie as its cover story, leading into a feature on the game inside the zine, which will include a full map of the game, just like those featured in Spectrum mags of old!
As well as covering Jet Set Steamboat Willie, Freeze ZX will also brave the hideous depths of some of the worst games ever released for the ZX Spectrum, as well as profiling the developer Dave Sloan of SloanySoft, creator of Jet Set Steamboat Willie.
Elsewhere in the first issue of Freeze ZX, the “Secret Squirrel” will hack their way into some of mysteries hidden deep inside ZX Spectrum game code.
The zine will also cover the next-gen ZX Spectrum iteration, the ZX Next, exploring the games available for the cult machine, and as we reported, a third batch of ZX Next machines is soon to be seeking backing via a crowdfunding campaign, so the timing for this feature couldn’t be better!
What’s more, if you pre-order issue one of Freeze ZX, you’ll also receive a free Freeze ZX collectable cheat card.
