God of War: Sons of Sparta was one of the more interesting reveals at yesterday’s State of Play presentation, at which other retro-flavored announcements of interest to us included Rayman 30th Anniversary Collection, on which we reported earlier today.
The game is a retro-style 2D side-scrolling pixel art Metroidvania game that has been developed by the Sony first-party developer and original God of War developer Santa Monica Studio in conjunction with the indie retro developer Mega Cat Studios, whose games we have covered previously.
Despite being announced mere hours ago, God of War: Sons of Sparta is already available to purchase for PlayStation 5, on the PlayStation Store, priced at $29.99 USD (or local equivalent).
God of War: Sons of Sparta is the 10th game to be released in the God of War series, with the very first being ‘God of War’ for PlayStation 2, back in 2005.
In addition to this new retro-style side-scrolling 2D God of War spin-off, remakes of the original God of War Trilogy were also announced during yesterday’s State of Play presentation. The God of War games set to be remade are:2005’s God of War (PlayStation 2); 2007’s God of War II (PlayStation 2); and 2010’s God of War III (PlayStation 3).
