Back in March, we reported on I Hate This Place, a new action horror title from developer Rock Square Thunder and published by Broken Mirror Games and Skybound Entertainment. There is still no news of a release beyond the Q4 date already announced. We do, however, have our first glimpse of some extended gameplay, which gives us much more information about how the game will play.

I Hate This Place is a retro-styled action horror game “dripping with an ’80s horror vibe”. It uses an isometric perspective to give that old-school feel, and its comic book look pays homage to the comic that inspired it. Players will explore a harsh and unforgiving wilderness and scavenge for resources. They will also craft weapons and supplies to fortify their shelter by day and prepare for nightfall, as that is when all hell tends to break loose.

Players take on the role of Elena, whose fight for survival begins when she and her friend unwittingly summon a malevolent force. Outmatched and hunted in a hostile world, players will need to stay vigilant, loot their surroundings, and pick their battles carefully against formidable foes, many of which hunt you by sound. From what we’ve seen so far, I Hate This Place is looking like a great title that we’re keen to see more of.
