FINISH HIM! That’s right, arcade fans, the original Mortal Kombat titles are coming to modern consoles this year, and it’s made even more special as we know retro masters Digital Eclipse are handling the collection. The announcement, made during PlayStation’s State of Play, confirmed the game was coming to PlayStation 4/5, Xbox, and Switch 1/2 consoles, as well as PC via Steam.
Titled Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, this will bring together an array of the best Mortal Kombat games with various ports of each from arcade to GameBoy. As with other Digital Eclipse releases, there will also be interviews and history about the series. This is an exciting release as the original Mortal Kombat games have not had an easy transition to modern platforms.
Digital Eclipse also confirmed that the collection will include a deep dive into the series’ lore, including timelines and character histories. We don’t know the exact date the collection will release or its price, yet. So far, we know a handful of the ports that will be included, see below, with more to be added. In the meantime, we can enjoy this sleek trailer that accompanies the release announcement.
