Obey the Insect God is a new side-scrolling action title from developer Chunkle Freaky’s Movies Games, out now on Steam. It uses retro-style digitized sprites, and the developer says the entire game has been influenced by 90s games, such as Mortal Kombat. The studio behind the game is the brainchild of award-winning filmmaker Charles Davis, and his film experience is clear to see in Obey the Insect God.
Players will descend into a labyrinth of mystery and danger in a surrealistic narrative inspired by the Finnish epic The Kalevala. As players fight deeper into the lair, cryptic puzzles and powerful enemies stand between them and the truth behind the Insect God. Armed with a variety of weapons, players will take on brutal boss fights, uncover hidden secrets, and explore a world brought to life through live-action performances.
Key Features in Obey the Insect God:
Digitized Sprites Bring the Lair to Life: Created from footage of Charles and other actors, the characters evoke the unforgettable style of late ’90s digitized arcade fighters.
A Retro-Inspired Narrative: Inspired by Finland’s national epic, the story unfolds through live actors, full voice acting, and a mystery that deepens as you descend into the lair.
Brutal Combo-Based Combat: Master tight timing, perfect blocks, and devastating combos to survive brutal enemies and towering boss encounters.
Explore the Lair Your Way: With most traversal abilities available from the start, players can freely explore more than two dozen zones and interconnected rooms as they see fit.
