Pixel Art Roguelike Plagun Out Now On Steam

plagun

Plagun is a new retro-inspired action title from developer Talkinguns and publisher indie.io. It has been described by the developer as a “roguelike pixel shooter” and is out now on Steam, priced at $4.99. Plagun was originally released on mobile phones, but now has full controller support and new gameplay refinements tailored for desktop players.

Set in a kingdom undone by its own cure for death, Plagun follows a doctor who has become one of the very monsters they once sought to heal. The world is overrun by infected husks. They’re mindless, regenerating creatures spawned from a failed attempt at immortality. Armed with biomechanical weapons and cursed masks, players must fight through escalating waves of these abominations, adapting their builds through mutation and experimentation as they struggle to survive.

Each run in Plagun is short, intense, and endlessly replayable. The game blends auto-shooting, bullet-hell action with tight platforming, forcing players to stay on the move as they battle through claustrophobic arenas filled with grotesque enemies. Between runs, collected corpses can be used to unlock new weapons, abilities, and passive powers, gradually transforming the player into a deadlier, more unstable force.

Masks play a key role in shaping each playthrough. Every cursed mask alters stats and abilities, encouraging players to experiment with aggressive, defensive, or hybrid strategies. Weapons, too, are as disturbing as they are powerful, organic “Plaguns” that fuse flesh and machinery in unpredictable ways, capable of everything from rapid-fire bursts to close-range melee attacks. As players push further into the infection, they’ll encounter cryptic notes and ruined environments that slowly piece together the story of a kingdom consumed by its own ambition.
