Skull Horde is a new Diablo-inspired auto-battler that sports some fantastic-looking pixel art. The game was announced some time ago, but now has a playable demo on Steam, where it will fully launch later in 2025. Skull Horder features elements from the auto-battler genre as well as traditional dungeon crawling that seems to fuse for some over-the-top undead army carnage. Developer 8BitSkull has explained that each roguelike run lasts about 20 minutes.
Players control a flying necromancer skull whose aim is to command a large undead army on a quest for revenge. Players will “charge through procedurally generated dungeons, unlocking powerful perks and strategically purchasing new units to build your squad.” The demo allows for one full run to get a taste of the gameplay and several features, as well as unit types, loot, and the tactics needed to succeed.
Key Features of Skull Horde:
- No Body? No Problem!: Stunt on the haters (your own body) as one of multiple playable characters with unique special abilities, including the option of being a floating skull.
- Super Soldier Squad: Turn your army into the finest assortment of expendable minions that money can buy, combining loot found in the dungeons to gain great advantages, and merging multiple units to make them stronger.
- Procedurally Generated Dungeons: No two dungeons are alike and each level features a variety of enemy types, ensuring that builds must be tinkered and tweaked to overcome their attacks. Unique challenges that reward new unlocks and content will also keep you on your skele-toes.
