A rare Nintendo GameCube prototype from the 2000 Space World trade show has surfaced online with a $100,000 asking price. This non-functional prototype, listed on eBay by collector Donny Fillerup, was one of a few units created to showcase the console’s design before its official launch in 2001. It features unique cosmetic differences from the final retail version, such as a transparent lid and LED lights, but lacks internal hardware to play games.
The prototype is considered a piece of gaming history, appealing to collectors rather than gamers seeking functionality. Fillerup plans to use the proceeds to fund a community gaming space. While the price is steep, offers below $100,000 are being considered. Nearly 200 people are reportedly watching the listing, reflecting strong interest among retro gaming enthusiasts.
