In a world where the landscape is constantly changing, the conversation around preserving games grows louder, especially for retro titles. Lost In Cult, known for gaming books and vinyl soundtracks, is aiming to do its bit to make sure we can play our favourites no matter the state of the industry. The premium publisher has launched Editions, a brand new game publishing arm under the stewardship of Ryan Brown, who has extensive experience running indie game publishers.
Lost In Cult has described the venture as a “bold new vision for physical media” and aims to please both those who simply enjoy owning physical editions of games and hardened collectors who enjoy all the bells and whistles. The first batch of three games will be launched across Switch and PlayStation 5 later this year. Thank Goodness You’re Here will be available for both, Immortality will be for PS5, and The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow will be on Switch. All three titles are available now to pre-order from Lost In Cult’s webshop.
All titles will have two ‘editions’ to purchase, a straight-up physical copy of the game for those just looking to play and deluxe versions that will include lots of great items such as artbooks and pin badges, posters, as well as preserving the making of the game through essay books. There will also be extras to add, such as Lost In Cult’s signature vinyl to round out any collection. Lost In Cult has also explained that there are plans to make regular releases and start to bring Switch 2 titles in the future.
“We’re being bold. I can unashamedly say we set out to create a new standard for physical games. And this is a multi-faceted mission.” explains Ryan Brown of Lost In Cult. “Our EDITIONS are designed to preserve not just the game, but the story and artistry behind its creation. At the same time, our retail releases ensure no one is locked out of owning great games physically, giving everyone a chance to play their favourites for the decades to come, internet connection willing or not.”
