We recently reported on Platypus Reclayed, a remaster of the 2002 indie smash shooter. Since then, a new Steam demo has been released for shmup fans to sample what’s on offer before the full release to PC and consoles on September 18th, 2025. It takes everything great about the original game and updates it with a huge host of new features, which developer Claymatic Games hopes will make it the definitive edition of Platypus.
“We think Platypus’ simplicity is key to its longevity,” said Anthony Flack, Lead Games Designer at Claymatic Games. “As games have become more complex, they’ve also become greater commitments. Platypus was born of a very simple one-button design principle: you move and shoot. It’s easy to understand and fun from the moment you pick it up. Coupled with a unique presentation that still looks incredible nearly a quarter century later, Platypus has stood the test of time as an evergreen game.
He followed this up by stating. “Yet we know things have changed. The tech of the early 2000s didn’t do the clay sculpting work justice with standard definition 4:3 monitors, and its reach was stifled by a less freeform ecosystem to sell games on consoles and handhelds. Now, Platypus can truly soar as the legendary fighter jet it was always destined to be!”
