The Challenge of Level 8-2 in Super Mario Bros. for Speedrunners

Speedrunners had a tough time trying to beat each other’s times for Level 8-2 in Super Mario Bros. until they uncovered a game-changing Bullet Bill glitch. This glitch allows Mario to bounce off a Bullet Bill, effectively skipping the tedious “walking to the castle” animation and saving valuable time. Interestingly, this glitch is actually a variation of a wall clip technique that can be executed within the block at the bottom of the flagpole at the end of levels, bypassing the “lowering the flagpole” animation and resulting in significant time savings. The current record for Level 8-2 stands at 4 minutes, 54 seconds, and 631 milliseconds, achieved by Niftski. In a surprising twist, GTAce made an unusual discovery that there is a 1 in 1000 chance of a piranha plant despawning during a speedrun, adding another layer of unpredictability to the game.

I'm Mubarak AlSabah, born in '87, and I'm a big fan of retro games. I’ve been gaming since '93, so it's been a lifelong passion for me. Collecting retro games is my favorite hobby, and I have a great collection that takes you back in time. In addition to gaming, I also have 830+ premium domain names, which is another hobby that I love just as much. I started collecting domains in '97, combining my interest in the digital world with my love for nostalgic gaming.
