Build Your Own Game Boy is a new event created by UK retro game modder Millennial Dad’s Modding. The event will give attendees the chance to build their very own Game Boy and “is designed for retro gaming fans, nostalgic millennials, collectors, makers, parents and anyone looking for a more tactile, low-tech night out in London”. Tickets are available for two sessions, June 30th and July 14th, both starting at 7 pm London time.
During the Build Your Own Game Boy session, attendees will explore the history of handheld gaming, try out a selection of modded retro consoles, and then build a fully working Game Boy Colour customised to their own style. Participants can choose their shell colour, button colours, and finishing touches before assembling their console with step-by-step guidance.
“I wanted to create an experience that feels nostalgic, practical, and calming. For many of us, the Game Boy was one of the first pieces of technology we truly loved. This workshop is about bringing that feeling back, but in a way where people can physically build something themselves and leave with a console that is uniquely theirs,” says Fabio Davide, organiser of the workshop. “Inspired by the Game Boy modding workshops of Akihabara, Build Your Own Game Boy at Four Quarters brings the same spirit of creativity, craft and retro tech culture to one of London’s best-loved arcade bars.”
