The Angry Video Game Nerd 8-Bit New Mode Released

We enjoyed our time with The Angry Video Game Nerd 8-Bit and felt it played perfectly on our nostalgia for old NES action platformers. Since then, the physical editions, including a real NES port, have been announced. Now, developers Progmancer, alongside publisher Retroware, have announced a new free update that will give a new way to play through the game. The Angry Video Game Nerd 8-Bit now has a Challenge Mode.

In the new mode, players will face endless threats, battle bosses, and unlock dozens of new, randomized power-ups in a grueling gauntlet that will challenge even the most grizzled gamers. A new trailer shows what can be expected in the new The Angry Video Game Nerd 8-Bit challenge. The new mode should add some extra longevity to those who have already conquered the base game.

In a press statement, the developers said. “Now available on all platforms, Endless Challenge Mode pushes players through randomly generated rooms teeming with lethal enemies and deadly hazards. After conquering 10 stages, you’ll face a grueling boss encounter. If you manage to come out on top, you’ll gain access to the Game Weenie’s shop, where you can purchase a variety of randomized items to aid you in your next, progressively more difficult run.”
